Meet the Owner of Wee Speak Therapy & Learning Center
Meet Peni Satterfield, M.S., CCC-SLP
Peni Satterfield is the owner of Wee Speak Therapy & Learning Center and a licensed speech-language pathologist with more than 30 years of experience working with children and families.
Her path into pediatric therapy started with her own family. When her oldest son was born with a cleft palate, she experienced firsthand how difficult it could be to find the right kind of support, especially when it came to feeding and early development.
That experience led her to pursue speech-language pathology with a clear goal: to help other families get the support she wished had been available.
A Career Built on Real-World Experience
Before becoming a speech therapist, Peni worked as a teacher in both elementary and middle school settings. After returning to school to complete her training in communication disorders, she spent years working in early intervention and school-based therapy programs.
Through that work, she saw a consistent challenge. Many children either didn’t qualify for services or received care that focused primarily on educational requirements rather than everyday function. Families often needed more support than those systems could provide.
In 2012, Peni opened Wee Speak Therapy & Learning Center to fill that gap and provide a more comprehensive, family-centered approach to care.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, University of Illinois (1983)

An Approach Focused on What Matters Most
Peni believes therapy should focus on the skills children need to function in their daily lives, not just meet developmental milestones on paper. That means working closely with families to understand their concerns, guiding them toward meaningful goals, and helping children build skills through connection, interaction, and play.
Her background also includes a strong focus on feeding therapy and early intervention, and she continues to work directly with both children and therapists to share strategies, provide mentorship, and support the team’s growth.
Outside the Clinic
When she’s not working with families or supporting her team, Peni spends most of her time with her family. She has three sons and six grandchildren, and much of her free time is spent attending games, gatherings, and activities with them. In quieter moments, she enjoys watching sports, working on jigsaw puzzles, and reading.
